Lightsaber
The Lightsaber is the honorable but powerful weapon of the Jedi. While a Light Jedi only
resorts to violence as a last resort, a Jedi is deadly with the help of his
weapon and the Force. Construction of a lightsaber is one of the last parts of a
Jedi's training.
The handgrip of a lightsaber is quite stout, being twenty-four to thirty centimeters
in length. One end of the ligtsaber features a blade emitter; a mirror-like
concave metal disk. The controls on the handgrip include an activation lever, a
recharge socket, diagnostic readouts, and in some cases, blade length and
intensity controls. Behind the access panel is a tiny but sophisticated power
cell and at least one multifaceted crystals or jewels.
The jewels in the lightsaber focus the power cell's energy charge into a
tight parallel beam which emerges from the blade emitter as a vibrant blade of
pure energy. The blade is a closed energy loop. It's amplitude determines when
the energy beam arms back to the negatively charged high-energy flux aperture
which rings the outer edge of the saber's concave disk. The power cell can last
for years as it is fed by the energy that enters the flux aperture, hence the
weapon loses energy only when the blade makes contact with another object.
The Lightsaber's deadly energy blade can cut through almost any substance
with the exception of another lightsaber blade. Because the blade is pure energy
and thus has no weight, the light handle is the part of the weapon which makes
the weapon heavy. Thus, a novice can easily miscalculate the path of the weapon.
With the help of the Force, an experienced Jedi can block incoming blaster bolts
to return to the enemy, allowing him to repel as many as a dozen attackers.
Most Lightsabers have customized features as pressure-sensitive
activation levers which retract the blade when the lightsaber is released. Often,
Lightsabers use multiple crystals which enable the user to alter the amplitude
or length of the blade. The handgrip of the saber is also a work of art, and it
often features designs native to the Jedi's homeworld or is styled after his or
her master's lightsaber.
Jedi drew their lightsabers as a last resort, however their skills were
unmatched when these blades were activated.
Double Bladed Lightsaber
Two Dark Sith were known for their use of a Double Light Saber. The first of which was the notorious Exar Kun.
The second of which was Darth Maul. These weapons are similar to standard Lightsabers, only they use both ends of the handgrip
to emit a blade. The Double Sided Lightsabers are normally used during training,
and they are dangerous weapons to use during battle- both for the opponents and
the wielder. During training, these lightsabers are used to show padawans how to
fight and defend against multiple attackers. The Jedi must counter attacks which
come at twice the speed and from different directions.
Battle with such a Lightsaber is similar to using a quarterstaff. One blade
is used to block attacks, the other quickly retaliates from the opposite side to
deliver a killing blow.
Vibro-Ax
Vibro-axes range widely in both quality and outpost, however all of them have
the same basic design. These weapons use a power cell to supply energy to an
ultrasonic vibration generator which propels the cutting blade through thousands
of microscopic vibrations per second. The result of this is a hand weapon which
proves to be significantly more dangerous than standard axes or spears.
The nine Gamorrean Guards of
Jabba's Palace insisted on using the
crude vibro-axes built by Snogrutt, a master weapon maker from their home world
of Groogun, despite the availibilty of better weapons. The Guards were led by a
bruttish Gamorrean named Ortugg, and they patrolled through the palace's
dungeons in search of spies plotting against Jabba's best interests and keeping
close eye on any 'suspicious' visitors. Their favorite duty was guarding the
prisoners, as Jabba had allowed them to use their weapons on any intern
attempting to escape.
The Vibro-ax's wooden shaft holds a hollow ax head which contains the
ultrasonic generator and the power cell. A tremendous amount of vibration is
transferred down the handle, causing a great amount of shock to the user. The
Gamorreans are among the few strong enough to wield such a weapon. However, the
oafish Gammoreans often choose the use the devices when unpowered to demonstrate
their great strength. Jabba's guards tended to forget to power their weapons in
the heat of battle.
Unlike the Gamorreans, the Weequay and Nikto warriors use a more practical
version of vibro weaponry, such as the SoroSuub DB-1 Cutter Vibro-Ax. The DB-1
uses a hollow durasteel shaft with internal dampeners which absorb vibrations
from the ax blade. The high-powered ax head can slice though armour plating like
rotting cloth, and the quick release switch allows the fighter to replace a
damaged blade in seconds. Six power cells permit up to eight hours of continuous
use, and the intensity switch allows the fighter to determine precisely how much
damage the blade will cause. The weapons are sturdy and feature superior weight
distribution for better handling.
Gaffi Stick
The terms 'gaderffii stick' and 'gaffi stick' have become popular sland words
throughout the galaxy for any sharp offensive stick. The original gaffi sticks
were used by the nomadic Tusken
Raiders of Tatooine. These nomads used the stick for assault and battle
amongst each other and against other alien species.
Gaderffi sticks are fashioned out of wrecked starships or other repulsorlift
frames. The weapons are handmade and very crude, however, they are capable of
surviving for many years. The stick consists of a hollow durasteel tube with a
cutting blade affixed on one end and a weighted club on the other. The cutting
blade is often double bladed and is capable of killing a human within a single
blow. Sticks vary in sizes and styles. Variations include affixing a blade on
both ends, a club on both ends.
The sticks play significant role in Tusken culture. Duels among Tuskens over
social standings are common. The sticks are also used as practical sticks for
the nomads, as it can serve as a cane, marker, or hunting tool.
